UCC Services

UCC offers a vast amount of services such as Emergency, Employment, Community Outreach, Housing and Development Services.

The Emergency Services include:

Shelter Program: UCC operates an overnight homeless shelter for those in need of housing. The facility contains 60 beds for men and women over the age of 18. The shelter is centrally air-conditioned and heated and those in need are provided with ample toiletries as well as shower and laundry facilities.

Case Management: Case Management services include referrals as well as medical screnings by a doctor, nurse, or social worker from the Newark Department of Health and Welfare.

Food Pantry: A persons ability to receive food from the UCC food pantry is based on their fufillment of certain requirements. An individual or family wishing to receive supplies from UCC must meet numerous qualifications before they can be serviced.

Clothes Closet: Community residents in need of clothing can visit the UCC clothes closet to receive donated clothing on a first come first serve basis.

The Employment Services include:

Job Training Programs: UCC offers free, hands-on training programs in automotive services, computer repair, computer software applications and medical billing.

Resource Center: The on-site resource center offers job readiness workshops and job referrals for community residents seeking employment. In addition, a computer lab is available to individuals in need of computer and internet access.

The Community Outreach Services include:

Senior Citizen Activities: A variety of empowerment and recreational programs are offered by UCC to the senior citizens living in Newark.

Youth Programs & Mentoring: UCC has an abundance of programs and activities targeting at-risk-youth. The children of the Newark community can enroll in sports, art, music and audio production classes as well as mentoring programs.

Health Care: UCC provides health care referral service for Newark residents. In addition, health care screenings, seminars and workshops are available at our centers throughout the year.

Childcare/ After school: The UCC Daycare Center and After School Programs are adequate year around childcare services for families in need of childcare assistance.

The Housing & Development Services include:

Low-income Housing: Within the United Community Village development there are 36 units of affordable housing. The housing units are located in Newark's Central Ward.

Rental and Mortgage Assistance: UCC operates a rental and mortgage assistance program designed to assist individuals and families experiencing difficulty maintaining their homes. Enrollment is based on qualification.
